ACUPUNCTURE TREATMENT OF ATOPIC DERMATITIS AND ITS APPLICATION TO AUTOIMMUNE DISEASES

Purpose

Acupuncture treatments on atopic dermatitis and bronchial asthma will be reported. Then, the applicability of acupuncture treatments to the entire range of allergosis will be reviewed based on the acceptable result of such treatment performed on a case in which generalized dermatitis continued for a long time, transforming into autoimmune disease, and documentary photographs of inflammation due to the excess movement of mast cells, the leading character of allergy will be exhibited.

Subject and treatment method

Subject patients

There were 146 subjects in total from the age of two weeks to sixty years consisting of 59 males and 87 females including 18 people with bronchial asthma complication, one with SLE, one with Sjögren's syndrome and one with ulcerative colitis.

Treatment method

  1. A disposable needle of 30 mm in length and 140 um in diameter shall be used. Several spots on major area shall be touched and a small amount of middle class moxa shall be burned on inflammation spots and on major area for 5~30 seconds at below 38°C without calefaction. However, for subjects suffering from autoimmune disease, calefactory moxibustion shall be performed on several spots.
  2. Constant-dermtemperature stupe shall be performed on the affected part using purified water for 15 minutes, otherwise ablution using the same water at the same temperature shall be conducted.
  3. Soup made from a variety of vegetables shall be given to patients.

Recording method

  1. Progress photograph shooting.
  2. IgE, eosinophil, leukocyte, LDH, CH50, antinuclear antibody and other blood tests shall be performed.
